Tattoo News - April/May 2003

ON THE WEB

Well, Po'oino's Waikiki shop New Tribal is gone, but the website is still up & running at http://161.58.169.245/newtribal/menuorangehtml.html It takes forever to load, but it's worthwhile if you have a DSL hook up.

Roiti's Tahitian import store Treasures of Tahiti is online at http://store.yahoo.com/islandtrend/index.html

If you like Tribal style (by this I don't mean Polynesian!) tattoos, there are a lot at http://www.bmezine.com/tattoo/netrib110.html

There's some nice Maori design jewelry available online at
http://www.nzjewellery.co.nz/jewellery/fullsize/fullsize04.html There is also a link here to Te Papa, the New Zealand National Museum in Wellington, which is worth a look.

The Pacific Arts Association Conference is happening in Christchurch New Zealand in late June. If you are interested or just curious, see http://www.conference.co.nz/paa/home.htm. I'll be there! Take a look at the Galleries link-- there's some links to good websites with Pacific art.

ON MAUI

Perhaps the best annual event in Hawai'i is the Maui Celebration of the Arts at the Ritz-Carlton at Kapalua. The schedule for this year is at http://www.celebrationofthearts.org/history2003.html Note the tattoo seminar.

ON YOUR NEWSRACK

The current issue (Mar/Apr) issue of Hawaii Magazine has an article on Hawaiian tattoos which is worth checking out. There's an interesting debate on contemporary tattooing with myself, Keali'i Reichel, and Keone Nunez. I found copies in both Borders and Barnes & Noble on the west coast. I've been told it's still available on the mainland, but the new issue is already out here in Hawai'i. Check it out soon!

ON THE MAINLAND

April 27th & 28th a film about Rell Sunn, Heart of the Sea: Kapolioka'ehukai, will be playing with the SF International Film Festival. See http://www.sfiff.org/fest03/titleDetail.asp?title_id=64

Sat. May 10th - May Day Celebration at the Pleasanton County Fairgrounds. Sorry, no webpage.

Sat. & Sun. May 17th & 18th Aloha Expo at Sante Fe Springs (just north of the 91 Freeway off the I-605 in LA) . For details: http://hometown.aol.com/kcocnewsletter/myhomepage/index.html

MY TATTOO SCHEDULE

If you are interestd in an appointment during my upcoming CA trip, contact me SOON! The deadline is officially April 10th, but at this point there are still many openings, but DON'T WAIT! Currently I am in Honolulu via both phone &
e-mail (until April 16th). You can reach me at (808) 734-8677, but please keep in mind that we are now 3 hours earlier than the west coast. For details on how to sign up for an appointment, see http://www.tattootraditions.alohaworld.com/tattootraditions/schedule.htm.

My schedule:
Home - March 20th through April 16th
Maui - April 17th - 20th
Home - April 21st - 27th
San Francisco - East Bay Area - May 1st - May 12th
Los Angeles - May 16th - 26th
N. San Diego County - May 28th - June 1st

If you are in LA, I will be spending limited time at Island Legends this trip-- I'll be at the store Tues, May 20th through Fri. the 23rd only. Most of my time will be in the Galleria location-- call for the exact location (unless you already know it!) if you would like to stop by outside store hours.

If you are in the SF area-- all my appointments this trip will be at the private Livermore studio, not the Redwood City store. Again, call for the exact location.

I do NOT e-mail once I am in California-- my CA number is (510) 802-2155.

Note: I will not be returning to CA until mid-July, as I'll be in New Zealand again in June, so get those new tattoos now!

Aloha!

Tricia
