UPCOMING WEST COAST EVENTS & LOCATIONS

The San Diego Pacific Islander Festival will take place from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm on Sept. 28th & 29th at Ski Beach on Mission Bay. For details see http://www.pacificislanders.com/ Look for me in the Cultural Village.

I will be working through a new shop in the North San Diego County area, Momilani's Island Traditions in Oceanside at 1906 Oceanside Blvd. Stop by and say hi. You can check out my portfolio & sign up for a tattoo while you are there! There's also a Hawaiian resturant next door, Kristen Sushi & Hawaiian Style Grill. Saturday nights you can get Lomi (massage) and hear Hawaiian music
while you eat.

San Pedro also has a great little Hawaiian store, Pearls of the Pacific. Owner & Kumu Hula, Kanoe Baker also offers hula instruction and entertainment. 365 W. 6th Ave in San Pedro, (310) 732-7920.

ON THE WEB

Jane's Oceania is still one of the best, most comprehensive sites on the web about many aspects of Pacific culture. It is well worth checking out. Her site
on Tahitian tattoos, however, has a problem. While the text is a fairly accurate description of Tahitian tattooing, all the illustrations are Marquesan, which,
in ancient times, was very different. In spite, her tattoo sites are well worth a visit. See http://www.janeresture.com/oceania_tattoos/index.htm Make sure to check out her homepage as well, and the index.

Another excellent listing of online Pacific resources is at http://www2.hawaii.edu/~ogden/piir/

An interesting site on Indonesian tattoo (both traditional and contemporary styles) is at http://www.geocities.com/laineberman/TattooIndo.htm

Learn more about traditional Filipino tattoos at http://www.destroy-all-monsters.com/tattoo.shtml

O'ahu Kumu Hula, Pattye Wright, has done an excellent series of instructional videos for those of you interested in learning (or continuing to learn) on your own. See http://www.realhula.com
