Tattoo News - October 2002

UPCOMING WEST COAST EVENTS

SF & LA area residents-- you are in for a treat! There is an excellent traditional dance group from Lifou (just east of New Caledonia) in the Loyalty Islands performing in Fairfax, then in LA at the upcoming music festivals. They
will be taking part in the Fairfax World Music Festival, Sept 21st & 22nd just N. of SF. See http://www.fairfaxworldmusicfestival.org/home.htm In LA you can see them at The World Festival of Sacred Music, Sept 29th at 6:00 pm at the Greek Theatre. For details & ticket info, go to:
http://www.festivalofsacredmusic.org/festival_2002/events/sacredworld.html

The San Diego Pacific Islander Festival will take place from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm on Sept. 28th & 29th at Ski Beach on Mission Bay. For details see http://www.pacificislanders.com/ Look for me in the Cultural Village.

I will be working through a new shop in the North San Diego County area, Momilani's Island Traditions in Oceanside at 1906 Oceanside Blvd. Stop by and say hi. You can check out my portfolio & sign up for a tattoo while you are there! There's also a Hawaiian resturant next door, Kristen Sushi & Hawaiian Style Grill.

ON THE WEB

Caroline Yacoe provided some excellent photos & reports from the Melanesian Arts Festival that took place during August in Vanuatu. Her articles are archived online with Pacific Islands Report, but the archive is a pain to search. Regardless, the website is worth checking out for the best news on the Pacific. See http://pidp.eastwestcenter.org/pireport/graphics.htm The next festival will be in Fiji in 2004.

My friend Sandra has a great website for the shop in Ibiza, Spain. Check out http://www.tahititattooibiza.arrakis.es/

Some interesting tattoo articles have appeared in the BBC News. See http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/1444968.stm A disturbing article on someone who contracted the skin eating disease via a tattoo, see http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/health/2102751.stm
