Tattoo News - January 2013

I hope you all had a wonderful holiday season and I wish you a happy, healthy and prosperous new year!

ONLINE

An article on Tattoo Honolulu, the exhibit now on at the Honolulu Museum of Art (through Jan 27th) is in Skin & Ink magazine. A PDF of the article is at: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/55758507/tattoohonoluluskinandinkmarch2013missaquino.pdf  If you are on O'ahu and are interested in seeing the exhibition, see http://honolulumuseum.org/art/exhibitions/12749-tattoo_honolulu There is currently a second exhibition organized by the local tattoo community spearheaded by Aisea Toetu'u which is on the 2nd floor of the Linekona Annex.

A good site with loads of interesting Pacific resources is posted by ANU Pacific Studies at http://coombs.anu.edu.au/WWWVL-PacificStudies.html A wide range of cultures and topics are included here.  It's fun to browse! I found a fair amount on Papuan and Burmese tattooing, but not a lot from other Pacific cultures.

The Pitt Rivers Museum has a good virtual exhibition online featuring various forms of body art
-- both temporary and permanent.
See http://web.prm.ox.ac.uk/bodyarts/

An interesting discussion re. a nude portrait of Nicole Scherzinger with a fake Maori-inspired tattoo is at http://news.tangatawhenua.com/archives/15616

A fun site on body painting is at http://dabanga.com/dabangalicious/tales-of-the-body-paint/

On the topic of body paint, the World Bodypainting Festival site is worth browsing: http://www.bodypainting-festival.com/en/  Another good collection of images with a fun video is at http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2170647/Paint-strippers-200-exotic-human-artworks-draw-30-000-visitors-15th-annual-World-Bodypainting-Festival.html  and a great collection of images, especially the final completed pieces, http://www.slideshare.net/ThomasLeeSlides/world-bodypainting-festival-2012-portschach-austria
