Tattoo News - June 2011
I'm departing very soon for my next CA trip. Also, I will NOT have internet access during my upcoming LA stay, so I will NOT be receiving e-mail from June 1-14, please call instead. TATTOO NEWS Maarten Hesselt van Dinter has a website on traditional tattoos from many cultures. It's a fun, informative site, but as always, I'll forewarn viewers that some of the illustrations are later copies and engravings so the drawings are not all necessarily accurate. Regardless, it's a good site and worth browsing! He's really done a great job! http://www.mundurucu.com/ I get a lot of requests from folks outside the US for referrals. There ARE several excellent artists in Europe. To name just a few, Rob Deut is in Ymuiden near Amsterdam & is online at http://www.robdeut.com/ Jacqueline Spoerle is in Luzern, Switzerland and can be contacted on Facebook or you can see her work at http://www.corazontattoo.ch/oldsite/default.asp In the UK, see Tony Unwin's work at http://kirituhitattoo.com/ There's quite a few Marquesans and Tahitians working in France. I'll include links in my next newsletter. A very interesting case regarding a case copyright infringement of a tattoo artist's work is summarized at http://www.nytimes.com/2011/05/21/business/media/21tattoo.html?_r=2&hp This is somewhat of a landmark case as it could set a precedent for future cases of copied tattoos and the issue of legal ownership. Some stunning jewelry that incorporates Polynesian tattoo motifs is at http://ruxulia.com/ Unfortunately they do not sell online, but only through their Tokyo stores. Anyone going to Tokyo?
The Office of Hawaiian Affairs has launched a new database compiling many resources on people & things Hawaiian. It is an amazing resource & worth a bit of time browsing if you are of Hawaiian descent, researching genealogy or Hawaiian culture: http://www.papakilodatabase.com/main/index.php TRAVEL AND TATTOO SCHEDULE: June 4th - June 12th: Los Angeles June 18th - July 3rd : east SF area July 8th - Aug 5th: home on O'ahu

Please call me at (808) 734-8677 or you can e-mail me at tattoo@lava.net. I talk FAR faster than I type so I far prefer the phone whenever possible. If you are a new client, more details on signing up are online at http://www.thepolynesiantattoo.com/schedule.htm Also, the FAQ link on my website has quite a bit of info on the process-it may help to read it over: http://www.thepolynesiantattoo.com/faq.htm
LA clients: I will be at a new location in Northridge. If you are currently signed up you should have received the address via e-mail. I will also put it on the recording on my CA voice mail number: 510-802-2155. Also, I will have a new apprentice with me, so if you are interested in an appointment with a skilled newbie at very reasonable rates, let me know.
