Tattoo News - February 2013

ONLINE

An excellent travel video on Aotearoa (New Zealand) featuring a fair amount of tattoo is online at  http://youtu.be/nCbQDQmo4VU . Enjoy!

While looking for fun websites and films on the more remote Polynesian Outliers for my course I ran across the following website on Tikopia: http://atomvoyages.com/articles/cruising-destinations/232-tikopia-island-a-little-known-outpost-of-traditional-culture-in-the-south-pacific.html

The National Library of New Zealand has an impressive online library of digital images. A large selection of photographs of moko (Maori traditional tattoo) is at http://natlib.govt.nz/photos?utf8=_&text=moko/a>  You may have to copy & paste this link.

There's a current exhibition of Samoan barkcloth (siapo) at the University of Hawaii's Hamilton Library, also online at http://digicoll.manoa.hawaii.edu/siapo/Pages/about.php?s=about

There's another exhibition by the Museum of Anthropology at Missouri: http://anthromuseum.missouri.edu/minigalleries/tapacloth/intro.shtml

The European body painting group, CreaChiefs has a great gallery of innovative body art on their website. See http://creachiefs.com/ One of their members, Bella Volen, has a fun website: http://bella-volen.com/paintloon.html
Vancouver, B.C. will be the host city for the Pacific Arts Association conference in early August.  It should be well worth attending!  http://www.Pacificarts.org/symposia
