Tattoo News - August 2010

I'll be giving a presentation, A Tattoo Tour of Polynesia, at UH Hilo on August 26th at 5:00 pm. The room number is UCB127. It's a very heavily illustrated presentation on the ancient tattoo practices in each of the primary Polynesian groups. Please come if you are on the Big Island!

Speaking of inter-island travel, I found a fantastic website that has car rentals at incredible prices. They were less than half most rentals I priced and they book for the major rental companies-these are NOT rent-a-heaps. See http://www.hawaiicarrentals.net/

If you are planning a visit to Hawai'i, it is worthwhile to join the Hawai'i Museums Association. An out-of-State resident can join for only $20. A year & get free admission to ALL museums in Hawai'i, even the Aquarium & Bishop Museum. It's an unbelievable bargain- http://www.hawaiimuseums.org

The Polynesian Tattoo Today is back in print! It had sold out entirely in just 8 weeks, but the second printing is in and I have a large number of copies for sale. I don't want it to become unavailable or go out-of-print again! Just link to my website: http://www.ThePolynesianTattoo.com to order. If you are not in the US, please e-mail me for a shipping quote tattoo@lava.net & I can send you a PayPal invoice. Shipping prices on the website are for domestic mail only.

There have been a number of great reviews. Here's just a few:

There may be a second volume of the book is the somewhat near future. If you are interested in being included, please e-mail me a low res. preview of your work (good, clear photos only, please) along with your complete contact info for preview. My e-mail is tattoo@lava.net . If your work is under consideration by the selection committee, we will need a high resolution photo, along with the individuals (and any professional photographers) permission (an e-mail statement is sufficient).

A number of papers on Polynesian tattoo have been published in various conference proceedings by the Easter Island Foundation. There are 8 articles totaling 56 pages, which have just been compiled & are available (photocopied) for $18. which includes postage within the US. For domestic sales, send a check or money order to Easter Island Foundation, PO Box 6774, Los Osos, CA 93412. For international orders, please e-mail books@islandheritage.org.

Many of you may know the work of Clark Little. He is an AMAZING photographer, focusing on waves & ocean shots. His work is mind-boggling. To see some spectacular images, check out http://www.clarklittlephotography.com/gallery/index/category

TRAVEL AND TATTOO SCHEDULE:

As you may know, I am having fairly major surgery in the near future-- Aug 31st to be exact. Thus, my CA work schedule will be slightly later than previously planned. Here's my new dates:

Until Sept 26th: home in Hawai'i
Sept 30- Oct 10th: east SF area
Oct 16th - Oct 31st: Los Angeles
Nov 4th - 16th: home on O'ahu
Nov 20th - Dec 15th: New Zealand
Dec 18th - mid-Feb: home on O'ahu

As always, the sooner you sign up, the better, as it allows us more time to communicate & work on your art, and gives you higher priority in scheduling. Details are on my website at hhttp://thepolynesiantattoo.com/schedule.htm

If you are already signed up, you'll hear from me in mid to late September re. scheduling, or feel free to call me after Sept. 12th or so. To my Oceanside clients-- sorry I can't make it down your way this trip from the looks of things now. You are welcome to come up to LA, and I will give you priority in scheduling because of the drive.

During my spring trip next year, I may be stopping in San Luis Obispo IF there are enough serious clients to justify my stay. Let me know if you are in the area & serious about some ink.

For any of the above cities/dates, please call me to discuss art & scheduling- 808 236-7301 or 808 734-8677. If you are a new client, the FAQ link on my website has quite a bit of info on the process-it may help to read it over: http://thepolynesiantattoo.com/schedule.htm. You can also e-mail me at , but I prefer the phone, as I talk far faster than I type./p>

Aloha,
Tricia
