Tattoo News - April 2008
IN WASHINGTON STATE If you are in Eastern WA & want a Polynesian tattoo, you are in luck! Noel Messer has relocated from New Zealand to Spokane and is now at Lady Luck Tattoo. Noel wears a Samoan pe'a, done by Sua Suluape Paulo. The story is online at http://www.ladylucktattoo.com/noel_messer_pea.ydev
ON THE WEB Maori artist, George Nuku, has an upcoming exhibition in the UK. The announcement is at http://www.captcook-ne.co.uk/ccbm/whatson.htm Check out George's moko! There is a video of the procedure on You Tube, search for George Nuku moko.
BOOKS There is yet another book out on tattoo-- this one a bit more literary in focus. Pacific Designs in Print & Skin: Tattooing the World, by Juniper Ellis. I ordered it on Amazon & it just arrived. It looks like a good read! See http://www.amazon.com/Tattooing-World-Pacific-Designs-Print/dp/0231143699/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1207476441&sr=8-1
I also highly recommend Ana Maria Arredondo's book on Rapa Nui tattoo, Takona, but it isn't easy to find outside Chile. If I find a source, I'll include it in a future newsletter.
