Tattoo News - December 2016

Wishing you all a very happy holiday season!  I apologize for being so lax in sending out these newsletters. Rather than being monthly, they seem to have become quarterly. I guess that's not a bad thing!

There's a few interesting online tattoo-related articles. The first few links here are on the Radio New Zealand website:

The first Maori woman in Parliament to wear a moko kauae (chin tattoo) has a nice write-up at http://www.radionz.co.nz/news/political/310409/mahuta-in-mp-tattoo-first. There's an audio feature here as well.

The tattoo revival in the Cook Islands is discussed at http://www.radionz.co.nz/national/programmes/spectrum/audio/201782501/tapping-into-the-past Check out the audio link to hear the interview.

If you are interested in Cook Islands tattoo, make sure to check out Therese Mangos book, Patterns of the Past. If you are in the US, you can order online from UH Press: http://www.uhpress.hawaii.edu/p-9005-9780473193775.aspx

MAORI JEWELRY DIRECT FROM AOTEAROA (New Zealand)! Once again, I have etched jewelry in high quality resin that's lightweight, nearly indestructible, waterproof and affordable, yet it have the look of elegant, etched glass.  I have a new website (mobile-friendly) with a shop where you can order, see www.PolynesianTattoo.net then the STORE link.

I now have TEMPORARY TATTOOS FOR SALE!  These are Polynesian patterns ranging from semi-traditional designs to more modern motifs such as manta rays & turtles. Order a mixed selection of 5 sheets for $22.50 + $2.50 postage. I'm still adding these to my website, so if you don't see them posted yet, just shoot me an email & I can send you the images. Sorry folks, if you are outside the US, International shipping rates are significantly more expensive. Email for a quote to your country.

POLYNESIAN TATTOOS ON LEATHER:  Na Koa Leather is having a promotional sale through the end of the month. Buy any one product (wallet, clutch or wristband) and receive a free ID/credit card holder. Add both items to your shopping cart, them make sure to add the coupon code (it is case-sensitive)"tricia1". See www.NaKoaLeather.com

A fun Hawaiian-made product is Filthy Farmgirl Soaps. These have really amusing names and vintage labels.  Check 'em out! https://shop.filthyfarmgirl.com/

TRAVEL AND TATTOO SCHEDULE:

I am home on Oʻahu until mid-May. In fact, I am hoping to open a new small private studio here in Kaneohe in early January.  This summer I'll be traveling again to Long Beach and the East SF area. Sign up early!  It helps if we have a few months to correspond on your design so that we can find a design that has meaning to you.

Aloha,
Tricia Allen
